    Description
In his letter to Richard Towneley dated 24 March 1676, John Flamsteed described the mechanism of the balance-spring watch, designed by Christian Huygens, from a specimen held by Humphrey Adamson the instrument maker. Flamsteed notes that the description by Henry Oldenburg (in Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, vol. 9, no. 112 (1675), pp. 272-73) was poor. The figures show the spring and the regulator of the spring.
