    Description
    Two architectural sketches.

This volume is based on material gathered by Christopher Wren Jr, FRS (1675-1747), the son of Sir Christopher Wren (1632-1723), the architect and one of the earliest fellows of the Royal Society. This volume is based on material gathered by Wren Jr from 1719 (when his father was still alive) in a volume now in the British Library (Add. MS 25071). This volume in the Royal Society, also in the hand of Christopher Wren Jr, was begun around 1728 and continued to be supplemented and edited by him until July 1741. It was published by Stephen Wren, the son of Christopher Wren Jr, in 1750. John Ward had access to this material and other information from Christopher Wren Jr for his life of Christopher Wren Sr in Lives of the Professors of Gresham College (1740).

A copy, now in All Souls College, Oxford, was made from the Royal Society volume in 1734, or shortly afterwards. There is another ‘heirloom’ copy at the Royal Institute of British Architects. (J. A. Bennett, 'A Study of Parentalia, with Two Unpublished Letters of Sir Christopher Wren', Annals of Science, 30 (1973), 129-47).
