Engraving of the Virgin Mary included in a manuscript entitled Philosophia Universalis Pertinens a Gabrielem Colleno Logicum (1694). This print was printed in Paris by Nicholas Langlois but does not contain an artist's signature. Below the image is the text 'Mater dolorosa ora pro nobis' (Grieving mother pray for us).
This is a student notebook of Gabriel Collenno, recording the undergraduate course in logic, as taken at the University of Paris. Student notebooks of the time often include printed plates and hand-drawn images as illustrations, sometimes related, sometimes unrelated to the material.
