Description
Engraving of a half-length portrait of a sixteenth-century Flemish engineer, Jean Taisner, by Nicolas de Larmessin and published by François Foppens I in Brussels. It was included in Isaac Bullart's Académie des Sciences et Arts... (Brussels: Foppens, 1682). Framed with coloured slips of decorative pattern.
From a set of albums known as Collectanea Newtoniana, a selection of prints, original artwork and manuscripts relating to Newton, collected by Charles Turnor (1768-1853). Turnor was an astronomer, collector and Fellow of the Royal Society. He owned Woolsthorpe Manor (Newton’s birthplace).
