Object history
At the meeting of the Royal Society on 4 November 1663, ‘The history of whale-fishing, and of the making of whale-oil, was delivered in by the secretary from Mr. Gray of the Greenland company, who had been in those parts, and present at the killings of whales and the making of oil a dozen times; and was ordered to be registered' (Birch 1:324). The text, without the figure, is printed in Birch 1:324-27.
