Inscribed in ink on page underneath the photograph: 'The Peak of Teneriffe from the town of Orotava on the Northern coast; Taken in September after the breaking up of the N.E. season.'

Charles Piazzi Smyth (1819-19900) Italian Astronomer was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1857, but resigned in 1874.
