Landscape view of the horizon as seen from Mount Guajara. The shadowy outline of a mountain peak is visible in the background, while sheer rockfaces of pink and orange are visible in the foreground. The mountain range appears to sit above the clouds.
Inscribed in ink underneath: 'The cloud horizon Eastward, on Guajara: showing also part of the basin and interior walls of the Great Crater.'

Charles Piazzi Smyth (1819-1900) Italian Astronomer was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1857, but resigned in 1874.
