Ornithological study, probably the Greater racket-tailed drongo (Dicrurus paradiseus) a bird native to Asia. Shown on a tree stump with hills and water behind.
Plate 108 from the Supplement to the general synopsis of birds, by John Latham (London, Leigh & Sotheby, 1787). The plate is inscribed above ‘Pl. CVIII’; and below ‘Malabar Shrike.’
In the associated description, the author states: ‘This inhabits the coast of Malabar, and other parts of India…That in the Leverian Museum answers the above descripton. But I find a bird very similar, if not the same, among the drawings of Lady Impey.’
