Description
Ornithological study of the Cream-coloured courser (Cursorius cursor) a wading bird native to North Africa and the Canary Islands. The specimen is shown standing on flat greenery.
Plate 116 from the Supplement to the general synopsis of birds, by John Latham (London, Leigh & Sotheby, 1787). The plate is inscribed above ‘Pl. CXVI’; and below ‘Cream-coloured Plover.’
In the associated description, the author states: ‘A bird of this curious and singular species was shot near St. Alban’s, in East Kent, the feat of William Hammond, Esq., who presented it to me…’
John Latham (1740-1837) British surgeon and naturalist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1775.
