Description
Head and shoulders portrait of Gaspare Aselli, facing slightly left [as viewed] looking out at the viewer. He is depicted with short hear and a long beard, and wears a wide ruff. In the upper corners are skull and cross bones.
An oval frame is inscribed 'Gaspar Asellius Civis Cremonensis Anatomicus Ticinensis Anno Aetatis XLII'; and underneath the frame 'Gasparis haec facies. Est cuius dextra? Galeni? / Cultior haec; et non certior illa fuit'.
Lower right [as viewed] inscription: 'Bassanus F.'
