    The plate is inscribed ‘Pl.39.’ above; and below: ‘Drawn by E. Emmons Jr. Engraved & Printed by Gavit & Duthie.’

    Ebenezer Emmons (1799-1863) American geologist, associated with the Geological Survey of the State of New York. His son acted as a paid assistant and illustrator after Emmons senior’s appointment as the State Geologist.
