Description
Primitive map showing eight named islands on the coast of Malacca, Malaysia. Each is named within a cartouche: ‘Machian, Mutir, Mare, Pulonga, Tadore, Mattara, Tarenate, Hiri’. The illustration also shows a Clove tree, Syzygium aromaticum.

This French version of Pigafetta’s account of the Magellan voyage was translated from a manuscript discovered in the Biblioteca Ambrosiana, Milan. Only a small selection of the original images appeared in this book.
