Lionel Smith Beale (1828–1906) British physician and microscopist was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1857. He delivered the Croonian lecture in 1865, his address was entitled, ‘The ultimate nerve fibres distributed to the muscles and some other tissues’ [Proceedings of the Royal Society, vol. 14 1865].
