    Seated portrait of Frederick William Beechey, turned to the right [as viewed]. He wears a white shirt underneath a long dark dinner jacket and a cravat. He holds his hands folded in his lap and the edges of two books are visible poking out of his inner breast pocket.

    Frederick William Beechey (1796-1856) British naval officer and geographer was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1824 and served as its Vice President from 1855-1856.
