    Seated portrait of John Hogg turned to the left [as viewed]. He wears a white shirt underneath a white waistcoat and a dark dinner jacket, with a rose lapel pin through the uppermost buttonhole. He wears his hair short with side-whiskers and holds a pen and paper in his lap.

    John Hogg (1800-1869) British classical scholar and naturalist was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1839.
