Incandescent electric lamp, with glass vacuum tube and rod filament mounted horizontally in metal brackets, and a glazed mahogany display case.
The brass plaque at the front is inscribed: ''THE FIRST INCANDESCENT ELECTRIC LAMP. This was made in 1877 (circa) by Sir (then Mr) JOSEPH WILSON SWAN'
Joseph Wilson Swan (1828–1914) British chemist and inventor was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1894.
