    Description
    Studies of an insect found in a pine seed at the pupal and adult stages of development, shown under magnification and at natural size. With a botanical study of a larch branch with cones, presumably the European larch (Larix decidua).

    The accompanying text is headed: ‘Table LXVIII. L’Insecte qui se trouve dans la graine du Pin, & un Rameau de Mélése’. [the insect in the pine nut and a twig of larch]. The author notes that; ‘J’ai promis dans l’Explication de la 66me Estampe de réprésenter aussi le Ver que j’ai trouvé dans la Graine du Pin & sa Métamorphose en Moucheron’ [I promised in the explanation of the 66th plate to also show the worm that I found in the pine-nut & its metamorphosis into a gnat].

    Martin Frobene [Frobenius] Ledermuller (1719-1769) German naturalist was employed in various capacities as a notary, turning to microscope studies after an illness induced temporary deafness.
