Three quarter length portrait of Robert Brown turned to the left [as viewed]. He wears a white shirt, a black cravat, suit and dinner jacket, and sits in a mahogany chair, the turned handles of which are visible on either side of him.
Inscribed below: ‘T. H. Maguire 1850 Robert Brown M &N HANHART LITH PRINTERS’
The portrait formed part of a series titled Portraits of Honorary Members of the Ipswich Museum (1852): lithographic portraits by Maguire commissioned by George Ransome, founder of the Ipswich Museum.
Robert Brown (1773–1858) British botanist was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society 1811.
