    Description
    Half length portrait of Hoffman, seated, within an oval supported by a plinth and with a surround of drapery, a coat of arms and architectural details. The sitter is shown facing the viewer, his body turned to the right as viewed. Both hands rest on a book, opened at a page headed “OPER OMNIA”. Upright books and quill pens are also on the table.

    With an inscription of achievements commencing: “FRIDERICUS HOFFMANNUS Regiae Majestatis Prussicae...” Inscribed below: “Anton Pesne Pictor R Effigiem Pinx: Petit Sculpsit Parisiis 1739.” In pencil lower left “1720”.

    Friedrich Hoffmann was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1720.
