    Inscribed top right: ‘Tome I. No.56.’ With a cartouche lower left: ‘CARTE DE L’ISLE DE JAMAICA. Echelles de Lieues Marine de France’ [scale of French nautical leagues], with a nought to eight scale. A framing scale shows longitude east of the Paris meridian and northern latitude.

    Jacques-Nicolas Bellin (1703-1772) French hydrographer was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1753.
