    6 geometric diagrams from John Collins’ solution to the problem posed by Richard Toweley of measuring the distance of three objects from one position.

    Illustrations to ‘Solution to a chrorographical problem posed by Richard Townley’ in Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, vol. 6, Issue 69 (31 December 1671). Original illustration was first shown at a meeting of the Royal Society on 20 January 1670, recorded in Register Book Original RBO/4/26, and copied into Register Book Copy RBC/3/171.

    John Collins (1625-1683), British mathematician, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1677, and; Richard Towneley (1629-1707), British mathematician and astronomer, was not a Fellow of the Royal Society.
