Two tables, containing 22 figures, depicting microscopic studies of grains of sand of different shapes and sizes, namely triangular and hexagonal, and a microscopic study of crystal.
Illustrations to ‘Part of a letter from Mr Anthony van Leuwenhoek, F. R. S. concerning the figures of sand’ in Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, vol. 24, issue 289 (February 1704). Original letters, sent from Leeuwenhoek in December 1703 and February 1704, containing these illustrations can be found in Early Letters of the Royal Society, EL/L3/56 and EL/L3/60.
Antoni van Leeuwenhoek (1632-1723) Dutch microscopist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1680.
