Description
Inscription dedicated to George Speke, of the Speke family from Somerset, England. Below, the Speke family coat of arms.
Inscription reads: ‘D & M CAMILIUS SATURNALIS CAMILAE NATULAE PATRONAE MERENTISSINE FECIT’.
Also inscribed ‘M: V dr: Gucht Sculp’ in bottom right corner, in reference to Michael Vandergucht (1660-1725), a Flemish engraver who worked for most of his career in England.
Sir George Speke (c.1530-1584), Sheriff of Somerset (1562-63) and Member of Parliament for Somerset (1572-83), was not a Fellow of the Royal Society.
