Half-length portrait of William Jackson Hooker turned slightly to his right. He is shown wearing a dark coat and waistcoat with a white shirt. His face and short, curly hair are depicted in the greatest level of detail with his clothing sketched out lightly below.

Sir William Jackson Hooker (1785-1865), British botanist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1812. He was the first Director of the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, succeeded by his son Joseph Dalton Hooker.
