Thomas George Cowling (1906-1990), British mathematician and astronomer, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1947. He was awarded the Society’s Hughes Medal ‘for his fundamental contributions to theoretical astrophysics including seminal theoretical studies of the role of electromagnetic induction in cosmic systems’.
