Sir Samuel Frederick Edwards (1928-2015) British physicist was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1966, he served on the Council from 1981-1983. He was awarded the Davy Medal in 1984 in recognition of his distinguished contributions to the theoretical basis of thermodynamic aspects of polymer chemistry and the Royal Medal in 2001 in recognition of his enormous influence across a wide spectrum of physical sciences, particularly theoretical condensed matter physics.
