Sketched depiction of John Flamsteed’s observatory at the Tower of London, showing a section of the main building and its White Tower, where he recorded astronomical observations prior to the creation of the Royal Observatory at Greenwich.

John Flamsteed (1646–1719), British astronomer and first Astronomer Royal, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1677.

John Flamsteed (1646–1719), British astronomer and first Astronomer Royal, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1677.
Object history
Charles Turnor presented his Collectanea Newtoniana. Being a selection of the most authentic engraved portraits of Sir Isaac Newton Knt., and other eminent Philosophers Mathematicians and Distinguished Men … to the Royal Society in 1837.
