Description
Half-length portrait of Richard Bentley, looking right of the viewer [as viewed], with a curled wig, dark robes and a white necktie. In an oval frame, mounted on a plinth inscribed: ‘RICHARDUS BENTLEIUS AET: XLVIII. MDCCX’.
Inscribed below: ‘I Thornhill pinxit. Geo: Vertue: Sculp:’

Object history
Charles Turnor presented his Collectanea Newtoniana. Being a selection of the most authentic engraved portraits of Sir Isaac Newton Knt., and other eminent Philosophers Mathematicians and Distinguished Men … to the Royal Society in 1837.
