Half-length portrait of Joseph Spence, turned to the right [as viewed], looking back to the left, with a dark coat and white necktie. In an oval frame inscribed: JOSEPH SPENCE A. M.’m on a plinth inscribed with a scene of artists at work.
Inscribed below: ‘Isaac Whood pinxit. G. Vertue Sculp 1746’

Charles Turnor presented his Collectanea Newtoniana. Being a selection of the most authentic engraved portraits of Sir Isaac Newton Knt., and other eminent Philosophers Mathematicians and Distinguished Men … to the Royal Society in 1837.
