    Description
    Half length portrait of Hume seated in front of a large volume or portfolio of prints, one of which he holds. Dressed in a dark coat with a light waistcoat, white shirt and neck cloth. An eyeglass is held by ribbon to his coat. Background details of drapery and a frame.

    Inscribed: “painted by H.Eldridge. Engraved by J. Jenkins. SIR ABRAHAM HUME, BART. F.R.S. – S.A. FISHER, SON &Co. LONDON, 1830.” With a facsimile signature. Inscribed in pencil lower left “1775” and lower right “1/-“.

    Sir Abraham Hume was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1775.
