Description
Half length portrait of Hume, seated, with a table of books on his right side [viewers’ left]. Hume is shown wearing a dark jacket and decorated waistcoat over a white shirt and black tie.
Inscribed: “9 [upper right] ENGRAVED BY W.HOLL. From a Painting by G.P.A.Healy. LONDON, JOHN SAUNDERS, JUNR. 7 DYERS BUILDINGS, HOLBORN BARS.” Inscribed in pencil lower left “1771 [struck through] 1818”
Joseph Hume was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1818.
