Frederick Sydney Dainton, Baron Dainton (1914-1997), British chemist and public servant, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1957 and served on its Council from 1964 to 1966. He was awarded the Davy Medal in 1969 in recognition ‘of his distinguished work on the mechanisms of chemical reactions’.
