Max Born (1882-1970), British physicist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1939. He was awarded the Society’s Hughes Medal in 1950 and the Nobel Prize (Physics) in 1954 for ‘for his fundamental research in quantum mechanics, especially for his statistical interpretation of the wavefunction’.
