The accompanying text is headed: ‘Le Microscope solaire de Cuff, avec la Chambre obscure’ [‘Cuff’s solar microscope with the Dark Room’]. The author divulges that: ‘Avant que d'entrer dans la Description des Parties de ce Microscope, je Vous dirai, que le Mien est de Mr. J. Cuff de Londores’ [‘Before going into the description of the parts of this microscope, I will tell you, that mine is from Mr. J. (John) Cuff from London’]

Martin Frobene [Frobenius] Ledermuller (1719-1769) German naturalist was employed in various capacities as a notary, turning to microscope studies after an illness induced temporary deafness.
