Sectional study of a branch of an unidentified tree from Spain at natural size (figure 1) and viewed by microscope, under magnification (fig. 2).
Inscribed above: ‘TAB: XLIII.’
The accompanying text is headed: ‘Un morceau de bois de Spain, coupe d'une branche en travers’ [‘A piece of wood from Spain, cut through’].
The author writes of the specimen: ‘Tour le coupe en travers de grandeur naturelle, par ou vous reconnoitres la grosseur & l’age de la branche; les 26 anneaux ou cercles marquant le meme nombre d’anees’ [‘The circular section at life size, by which you can tell the size and age of the branch; the 26 rings of circles marking the same number of years it is old’].
