Sir Frederick Gowland Hopkins (1861-1947), British biochemist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1905, served as Vice-President between 1928-1930, and as its President between 1930-1935. He was awarded the Society’s Royal Medal, 1918, Copley Medal, 1926, and was the recipient of the Nobel Prize (Physiology or Medicine) in 1929 for ‘his discovery of the growth-stimulating vitamins’.
