Harold Jeffreys (1891-1989), British geophysicist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1952. He was awarded the Society’s Royal Medal, 1948, Copley Medal, 1960, and gave its Bakerian Lecture in 1952 on ‘the origin of the solar system’.
