Louis Joel Mordell (1888-1972), American-British mathematician, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1924. He received the Society’s Sylvester Medal in 1949 for ‘his distinguished researches in pure mathematics, especially for his discoveries in the theory of numbers’.
