Sir Nevill Francis Mott (1905-1996), British theoretical physicist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1936. He was awarded the Society’s Hughes Medal, 1941, Royal Medal, 1953, Bakerian Award, 1953, Rutherford Award, 1962 and Humphry Davy Award, 1987. He was joint recipient with Philip W. Anderson (1923-2020) and John Hasbrouck Van Vleck (1899-1980) of the Nobel Prize (Physics) in 1977 'for their fundamental theoretical investigations of the electronic structure of magnetic and disordered systems'.
