John Ashworth Ratcliffe (1902-1987), British physicist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1951. He was awarded the Society’s Royal Medal in 1966 in ‘recognition of his distinguished studies in the ionosphere and on the propagation of radio waves’ and delivered its Rutherford Lecture in the same year.
