Sir Owen Willans Richardson (1879-1959), British physicist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1939. He was awarded the Society’s Hughes Medal, 1920, Royal Medal, 1930, and Nobel Prize (Physics) in 1928 ‘for his work on the thermionic phenomenon and especially for the discovery of the law named after him’.
