Marie Salomea Skłodowska Curie (1867-1934), Polish-French physicist and chemist, was not a Fellow of the Royal Society; Pierre Curie (1859-1906), French physicist and crystallographer, was not a Fellow of the Royal Society. They were joint recipient of the Nobel Prize (Physics) in 1903 ‘in recognition of the extraordinary services they have rendered by their joint researches on the radiation phenomena discovered by Professor Henri Becquerel.’

Object history
Vanity Fair’s ‘Men of the Day’ series, which featured a full page, colour caricature of a significant public figure and text commentary, largely written by "Jehu Junior", was a popular feature that ran between 1868 and 1913.
This print was donated to the Royal Society by former President Charles Scott Sherrington (1857–1952), as part of a bound volume featuring caricatures, photographs and signature facsimiles of the individuals.
