George Paget Thomson (1892-1975), British physicist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1930 and served as Vice President between 1950-1951. He was awarded the Society’s Hughes Medal, 1939, Bakerian Award, 1948, Royal Medal, 1949, and Rutherford Award, 1964. He was also joint recipient of the Nobel Prize (Physics) with Clinton Joseph Davisson (1881-1958) in 1937 for ‘their experimental discovery of the diffraction of electrons by crystals’.
