Robert Alexander Watson-Watt (1892-1973), British engineer and inventor of radar, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1941. He was awarded the Hughes Medal in 1948 for ‘his distinguished contributions to atmospheric physics and to the development of radar’.
