Description
An anatomical study in ink and watercolour of the overall internal anatomy of the Brachionus urceolaris, a type of microscopic animal in the Rotifer phylum.
This is an unpublished illustration submitted with Philip Henry Gosse's paper titled 'On the structure, functions, and homologies of the manducatory organs in the class Rotifera', published in volume 146 of Philosophical Transactions.
Inscribed with title at bottom of drawing. Signed bottom left, 'P. H. Gosse, ad viv.'
Philip Henry Gosse (1810-1888) was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1856.
