    Description
    Half-length portrait of Johnston in a dark jacket and high white collar and stock. Apparently proffering a paper inscribed “CEYLON TRYAL BY JURY MISSIONARIES...”, in reference to his role as Advocate General and then Chief Justice of the Admiralty Court in Ceylon (Sri Lanka)

    Inscribed: “W.M.Craig, del. T.Woolnoth, sculp. The Right Honble. Sir Alexr Johnston [name rendered as a facsimile signature] Knt. Chief Justice of the Admiralty Court in the Island of Ceylon. Published by Henry Fisher, Caxton, London, 1821.” In pencil upper right “99” and lower left “1810”.

    Sir Alexander Johnston was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1810.
