Sir Alfred Brian Pippard (1920-2008), British physicist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1956 and served on its Council between 1963-1964. He was awarded the Society’s Hughes Medal in 1959 for ‘his distinguished contributions in the field of low temperature physics’.
