Description
Landscape showing Hartwell House, Buckinghamshire, England, the home of John Lee, viewed from the south. The extension, containing the transit room and astronomical observatory is visible to the right of the building. The entrance pathway shows two gentlemen in conversation, separating an armillary sphere on a plinth and a sundial.

John Lee [formerly Fiott] (1783-1866) British antiquary and astronomer was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1831.
William Henry Smyth (1788-1865) British naval officer and surveyor was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1826.
