Head and shoulders portrait of Joseph Banks, head turned to the left as viewed. Banks wears a short wig, with dark coat and waistcoat buttoned to the neck.

Joseph Banks (1743-1820), British botanist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1766, and was President from 1778 until 1820.
