Michael John Seaton (1923-2007), British mathematician, atomic physicist and astronomer, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1967 and served on its Council between 1974-1976. He was awarded the Society’s Hughes Medal in 1992 for ‘his theoretical research in atomic physics and leadership of the Opacity Project’.
